The filmmakers that inspired the "indie" films of today were the French New Wave. This group of directors completely changed the paradigm of film making. Leaving the sound stage and heading into the real world, these filmmakers revolutionized film.
There is a wide world of animated film. Culling down all that exists in the world of animation for a four day film festival was an arduous task. The goal was to provide a wide variety of animated film that could attract childern of all ages. And this was no Disney flic. The preformance rights for Disney are ridiculous! And who wants to watch Aladdin?
The Godfather of Black Cinema. Charles Burnett, one of the greatest film makers of our time, traveled across the country to attend the NoDa Film Festival retrospective of his work. Another major success. Every seat in the house was taken the opening night.
Live bands. Great film. A wonderful combination. Three nights, three bands and three films. With standing room only packed tight, Pere Ubu played for almost four straight hours headlining the Sound/Vision Film Festival. Calabi Yau said it was the best show they ever played. And the Tenspeed Jazz Orchestra composed an entire albums worth of original music.
